EU finance heads discuss ways to save banks
Washington DC News.Net Tuesday 7th October, 2008
European Union finance ministers, meeting for two days in Luxemburg, have said they do not intend to let large European financial institutions fail.
They have said they want to prevent further weakening of the financial system as much as they can.
One of the key topics for discussion on the second day of talks was whether or not to guarantee all private savings accounts.
The economic leaders have said, first and foremost, they want to prevent large banks from failing and dragging smaller banks and institutions with them.
In the past few days, several European countries have decided to save local banks on their own initiative.
