DIFFUN, Quirino, Oct. 21(PIA) - For making it for three consecutive years (2017-2019), this town has just earned its grand slam title for the Seal of Good Education Governance (SGEG) from the Synergeia Foundation, with the support of USAID and in partnership with PLDT and Smart.

Based on the Synergeia Foundation's website, the SGEG measures how local governments provide children with equal access to good education.

To qualify for the Seal, the locality must have a high cohort-survival rate, that is, grade one pupils must at least finish grade six. The performance of the children in the national achievement test must also be steadily improving. The Special Education Fund must be used on activities that promote learning.

During the SGEG inaugural year in 2017, Diffun was among the 24 municipalities and cities in the entire country that were recognized for its outstanding efforts in delivering basic education to its constituents. Last year, it was again one of the 17 who were conferred with the said award.

Former Mayor and now Board Member Marlo Guillermo was very thankful to USAID, Synergeia and Smart for making this possible to deserving LGUs.

"Synergeia has taught us the value of shared governance in education and the importance of involving the community, school, DepEd, parents and teachers. We have been nurtured and loved by Synergeia because of our commitment to serve and perform our responsibility in education," Guillermo added.

For this year, Mayor May Garnace-Calaunan, together with District Supervisors Mely Rubi and Sebastian Ignacio and Local School Board Secretary Hensel T. Guillerno received the third Seal last Septemner 19, 2019 at Washington Sycip National Education Summit held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.

Calaunan thanked those who helped in the attainment of the said award especially to the previous administration of then Mayor and now Sangginiang Panlalawigan Member Guillermo for working hard for the education of the youth of Diffun.

Diffun received an incentive package worth P1.5 million from PLDT and its wireless unit, Smart Communications. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
