White stays hot as Memphis tops Temple

Brady White passed for 313 yards and a four touchdown passes as host Memphis defeated Temple 41-29 in an American Athletic Conference game Saturday.

White, who passed for a school-record 486 yards and a career-high six touchdowns last week in a win against UCF, threw two touchdowns to Tahj Washington and one each to Javon Ivory and Calvin Austin III, who finished with 184 yards.

The Tigers avenged their only regular-season loss last season and improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Anthony Russo completed 41 of 63 for 387 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions for the Owls (1-2, 1-2). Jadan Blue caught three of the touchdowns, finishing with 13 catches for 115 yards, and Branden Mack had the other score. Randle Jones had 12 catches for 118 yards.

Memphis drove to Riley Patterson's 42-yard field goal on the first possession of the third quarter to get within 15-13.

Rodney Owens had one of his two interceptions of Russo on the ensuing possession and White threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Austin to give the Tigers a 20-15 lead.

The Owls lost a fumble on their next possession and White threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Washington for a 27-15 lead.

Russo threw a 32-yard touchdown to Blue to get Temple within 27-22 at the end of the third quarter.

White's 7-yard touchdown pass to Ivory increased Memphis' lead to 34-22 early in the fourth quarter.

Russo answered with an 8-yard touchdown to Blue to reduce the lead to 34-29.

Kylan Watkins' 15-yard touchdown run completed the scoring with 2:15 left.

The Tigers scored first on a 3-yard touchdown pass from White to Washington midway through the first quarter.

Will Mobley's 25-yard field goal cut the lead to 7-3 at the end of the period.

The Owls took the lead when Russo threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Blue. They were left with a 9-7 lead midway through the second quarter after the extra point was blocked.

Patterson's 42-yard field goal put Memphis back on top.

Russo's 10-yard touchdown pass to Mack gave Temple a 15-10 lead after a two-point conversion failed.
