The Washington Nationals released right-hander Jeremy Jeffress, according to a report Sunday from the Washington Post.

Jeffress, 33, spent only about two weeks with the Nationals after signing a minor-league deal in February. He was vying for a role in the bullpen after going 4-1 with a 1.54 ERA and eight saves in 22 games with the Chicago Cubs last season.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Jeffress was released "for personnel reasons."

In 414 career games, all but one of which have come in relief, Jeffress is 32-12 with a 3.08 ERA and 52 saves. He earned an All-Star selection with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018, when he finished the season 8-1 with a 1.29 ERA and 15 saves in 73 appearances.
